Privacy Policy
miana
Who this policy covers
This policy applies to the miana iOS app, published by Mykhaylo Chayka, Kollwitzstr. 76, 10435 Berlin, Germany, available on the Apple App Store. If you have questions about this policy or how miana handles information, contact hello@getmiana.app.
Data we do not collect
miana has no account system, no login, and no backend server of any kind - there is nothing for miana to send your information to, because nothing beyond your device is listening. Specifically, miana does not:
- Require or use an account, email address, or password
- Include any analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs
- Use crash-reporting services (Apple's own opt-in, anonymized crash reports in Settings ▸ Privacy & Security remain entirely under your control, separate from miana)
- Share, sell, or transmit your data to any third party, for any reason
- Use cookies, device fingerprinting, or advertising identifiers
Information stored on your device
Everything you enter into miana - your due date, weight entries, blood pressure readings, kick counts, mood and symptom logs, digestion and intimacy notes, checklist progress, calendar-export choices, and Moments photos and journal entries - is stored locally on your iPhone, protected by iOS's own device encryption. It is never uploaded anywhere. If you delete the app, or use Settings ▸ Start Over inside miana, this data is permanently and immediately erased - there is no copy on any server to also delete, because none exists.
Apple Health (HealthKit)
With your explicit, per-category permission (asked by Apple's own Health permission sheet, not by miana), miana can read and write the following to Apple Health:
- Weight - read and write, so entries stay in sync with the Health app
- Steps - read only, to show your daily step count
- Blood pressure (systolic/diastolic) - read and write
- Sexual activity - read and write, only if you enable the optional Intimacy tracker in Settings (off by default)
This data is governed by Apple's own Health privacy protections: it stays on your device (and in your personal iCloud if you've enabled Health syncing at the iOS level, which is between you and Apple - miana has no part in that). miana only reads what it needs to display in-app and writes what you explicitly log; it does not read any other category of Health data, and it never transmits Health data anywhere outside the Health app itself. You can review or revoke miana's Health access at any time in the Health app under Sharing ▸ Apps.
Calendar
If you tap "Add to Calendar" on a checklist item or appointment, miana asks for calendar access (via Apple's own permission prompt) and adds that single event to your device's calendar. miana does not read your existing calendar entries and does not access your calendar for any other purpose.
Notifications
Medication reminders are scheduled entirely on your device using Apple's local notification system. miana does not use push notifications and has no server that could send one - there is nothing external involved in a reminder appearing on your phone.
Photos
Photos in Moments get there one of two ways. You can pick an existing one using Apple's native photo picker, which never grants miana access to your full photo library - only the specific photos you select. Or you can use miana's bump camera, which takes a new photo directly; it asks for camera permission the first time you open it, and shows your previous bump photo faintly on screen so you can line the new one up. That earlier photo is read from miana's own storage, not from your library - miana never requests photo library access at all. However a photo arrives, it is stored inside miana's private app storage on your device. Photos are not uploaded, backed up to any miana-controlled server, or shared.
Purchases
The one-time Lifetime purchase is processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit. miana never sees or stores your payment details, card number, or billing address - that information stays with Apple, governed by Apple's own privacy policy for App Store transactions.
Children's privacy
miana is intended for use by pregnant adults and their partners, and is not directed at children. miana does not knowingly collect any information from children.
International use
Because your data never leaves your device, there is no cross-border data transfer for miana to disclose - your information stays wherever your device is, under the security protections of iOS itself.
Your rights
Since miana holds no copy of your data anywhere outside your own device, most data-protection requests (access, correction, deletion, portability) are already fully in your hands: everything you've entered is visible in the app itself, and Settings ▸ Start Over deletes it all instantly and completely. If you have questions about your rights under GDPR or another applicable law, contact hello@getmiana.app.
Changes to this policy
If miana's data practices change - for example, if a future optional cloud-sync feature is introduced - this policy will be updated first, the version number above will change, and any new data-sharing capability will require your explicit, separate opt-in before it's ever turned on. Declining any such future feature will never affect miana's core functionality, which will always work fully offline.
